Kalie. Kales, if you're lucky.Twenty-something aspiring journalist from California (hence, the rather unimaginative username, but I've had it for years and I can't bring myself to change it). I have an unabashed love of television, particularly British imports, that is so strong it could rival Kenneth the Page's. I love to write and it becomes painfully clear in my often verbose entries. When I love or dislike something, you definitely know it. I'm not shy when it comes to letting my feelings loose, whether it's about something going on in my life or a fictional character. Other than talking about fandom and real life, I'll also post the occasional picspam, because I am a long-time Photoshop addict who just doesn't know how to quit.

If you're interested in being friends, go ahead and drop me a line. Be warned, though. I usually only add people who share mutual interests and friends or if I've run into you before either here on LJ or Tumblr.

Just a note first - In case you missed it the first time around, I put up a sign up post for my annual advent calendar holiday requests. There are only a few icon slots left, so if you want any icons from me, you'd better snap those up! However, if you'd like a fic, there are still plenty of slots available. Remember, I've allowed for one one icon request and one fic request per day.

Well, it happened. Within 2+ years of having a Tumblr, I've transitioned from a Livejournal user who has a Tumblr to a Tumblr user that has a Livejournal. This is more upsetting than it should be. In other web-related news, I've started using my Twitter again more frequently, so if anyone wants to add me, I'm here.

Nothing terribly exciting has been going on in my life other than being about a month away from (finally!) graduating, nearly two months away from moving out, and taking care of my brother who broke his arm during a football practice last Monday. All in all, it's about as thrilling as you would expect. MAYBE IF I UPDATED MORE, I'D HAVE BETTER ANECDOTES. I will say, though, that this time of year makes me regret never participating in NaNoWriMo. I've always wanted to do it (and commend the people who take this on), but I never do mostly out of fear that I'll never finish. I always say, "Maybe next year" and then next year comes and I'm saying the same thing all over again. It's not like I'm short on ideas. There have been several floating around in my mind for years. One of these days. One of these days.

But let's talk television, friends.

mostly downton abbey and parks and rec + picspamsCollapse )

For the record, I have a post coming up later in the week about things that I've been doing plus my thoughts on new television, but in the meantime, I wanted to post this because it's been in the works for a little while and I needed a pick-me-up.

TIME FOR AN AMY POND FICATHON, YO

I regret nothing. I only regret not putting it up sooner like I planned this past Sunday, but, well, the Emmy's tend to take precendent and I don't want this thing to be a flop. If you're unfamiliar with the way this ficathon will be run, here's how it goes.

rules and infoCollapse )

So, there you have it, guys. All questions or general comments may be directed in this thread. Get writing! Or prompting! Pimp out this thing to a ridiculous amount of people so I can feel better about myself and not have it be a colossal flop! Invite your friends! Basically, let's just have fun celebrating our delightful Scottish ginger queen who deserves better treatment than the writers are certainly giving her.

P.S. You can promote on Tumblr by re-blogging this link.

It's difficult to get in the mindset that it's summer what with the, you know, torrential downpour of hail we had yesterday afternoon. It feel so hard and thick, it looked as if there was a layer of snow on the ground. A lot of people might not think anything of this, but we don't get snow in my little pocket of Northern California (if we do, it never sticks), so it was a new sight. But really, though, I love going out this time of year. Although, to be fair, I'd rather take what we have going on right now as opposed to the norm.

I also wish every album that I downloaded lately hadn't been staggeringly boring. Someone give me some good recommendations for things, because I am dying. I wasn't expecting anything from the latest Death Cab and maybe it'll grow on me in a way that their last album eventually did, but boy, this was a let down. Also, if someone could rec me some good pop music, that would be lovely. I'm having a craving for some right now.

Despite all of that, things have actually been proper busy the past couple of days. Family issues are still on-going and I'll detail those later in a locked post since this one is to be public. During a period of boredom over the weekend when I had the place to myself for a few days and not much else to do, I asked for some top five suggestions on my Tumblr that I would turn into picspams. The lovely Linds had asked me for my top five favorite episodes of Parks and Recreation. Needless to say, I thought hard on that one. How could I possibly narrow it down to just five? I mean, I can single out maybe five episodes in total that were sub-par compared to the rest. I can barely choose my top five favorite episodes from season three alone, but I digress. So, I came up with a solution. I'd expand it to top ten with five episodes selected being pre-Adam Scott/Rob Lowe joining the cast and five selected post-Adam Scott/Rob Lowe. And even though that too was difficult, I got it done. Of course, while making this, I felt the urge to switch out one or two, but I stuck to my guns.

For the record, this is in chronological order. There is no way I would have been able to rank them and don't even ask me to try. This would have been up sooner, but I've only been able to work on it a little at a time. Oh well. Better late than never, right?

see the listCollapse )

And I'm spent. You'd think I'd be bored of talking about this show by now, but considering that everything else I watch has been massively disappointing this season (I'm looking at you, Doctor Who), this is only to be expected. I'd definitely love to hear about other episodes not listed here that you all would put on your list. :)

I feel a bit sorry for those of you I recently added as friends since this is the first post you're getting, but it's overdue and I have been promising it for ages. Truth be told, this post is mostly an exercise in giving my side-Tumblr a rest, because I use it far too many times to rant about various aspects of
Doctor Who
, its fandom, and do so in nauseating TL;DR fashion. After witnessing another round of slut-shaming in regards to the character of Amy Pond, I had it in my head that I wanted to write up a large post/picspam that serves up as not only my defense of that character, but also the many other female characters who are often underappreciated and/or hated on for a number of silly reasons.

Since some people on Tumblr that aren’t friends with me over here expressed interest in this post, I’m leaving it public. However, this isn’t an invitation for wank and asshole behavior, so please keep things respectful in here, even if you disagree. If anything starts up, I will shut it down so fast.

With that said, anyone who reads through all of this is a saint. I know I can get obsessively TL;DR, especially in defense in my favorite fictional ladies and this fandom tends to inspire a lot of feelings, for better or for worse. I also want to point out that there is a difference between simply disliking a character and using a lot of ridiculous rhetoric to express that dislike. I'm also not saying that there aren't valid criticisms of these characters (there are and I can recognize their flaws while enjoying them at the same time) or that characters not listed here are somehow not as good. I'm not saying that at all. I just wanted to make that clear in case anyone misinterprets my intentions. Oh, also, this covers all of the 2005 reboot. One of these days I'll eventually finish catching up with the classic series.
